What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, the ancient “science of life,” is a holistic system of health and healing that has been practiced for over 5,000 years. The word Ayurveda itself comes from ‘Ayus’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning knowledge. The term combines the knowledge of life and the understanding of disease. Ayurveda teaches that true wellbeing comes from a balance of body, mind, and spirit, guided by the three vital energies: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, it addresses the root cause of imbalance through personalised nutrition, detoxification therapies like Panchakarma, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle practices. Its aim is to prevent disease, restore harmony, and support each individual’s unique path to vitality and inner peace.
At Arunachala, we bring this timeless wisdom into a nurturing retreat setting, helping you to detox, rejuvenate, and reconnect with your natural state of balance
These services are provided by our certified Ayurvedic consultant, Dr. Ramesh Krishnan and therapeutic specialists from India. They enhance wellbeing, detox, and allowing both physical and mental rejuvenation. Ayurvedic therapeutic massages are individually customised to target all aspects of your physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
The Centre
Nestled in the ancient Slieve Bloom Mountains, the Arunachala centre takes its name from the majestic sacred mountain of Southern India. Spread across 12 acres of vibrant crops, serene forest, and peaceful leisure spaces, we honour the abundant gifts of Mother Earth.
Our building is truly unique and designed with intent to support human growth and transformation. Every curve and contour encourages a natural flow, inviting quiet reflection and a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.
Our roots stretch far beyond Ireland, reaching to the Mountain Top Clinic in the lush hills of Tamil Nadu, India; a place where ancient Ayurvedic traditions have been practiced and preserved for generations. Just as the Kerala clinic draws on the wisdom of nature and the stillness of the mountains, our wellness centre in the Slieve Bloom Mountains carries the same spirit. Both sanctuaries are shaped by their landscapes, infused with the healing energy of the earth, and dedicated to guiding each guest toward balance, renewal, and inner harmony.
Our building has been designed and built according to the principles of sacred geometry, a perfect home for Arunachala; embodying harmony between body, mind & spirit, whilst offering a holistic approach to wellness and personal growth.
Arunachala is more than just a wellness centre or spa, it’s a home for the Ayurvedic way of life.
